HOW PELOSI GETS RICH

JUST PASS IT!
In March of 2010, at the Legislative Conference for the National Association of Counties, Nancy Pelosi, who was Speaker of the House at the time, made yet another partisan pitch for the Affordable Health Care Act. The bill comprised well over 2,000 pages. Few debates had ever captured as much of the nation’s attention for so long. On the line was how to spend up to a trillion per year of the tax-payers’ money. Perhaps it was because she was frustrated, or perhaps it was because she couldn’t make a convincing enough argument, or perhaps it was because she received $316,300 that year from health professionals, and could count on a total of $1,440,867 from 2008 to 2018 to add to her net worth of over $100,000,000. She said these infamous words that quickly went viral:
“But we have to pass the [health care] bill so that you can find out what’s in it....”
Speaker Pelosi had confirmed how our government works behind the scenes at its highest levels in 16 words of a huge mistake. Special interest groups make a lengthy, over-complicated bill that is intentionally drafted that way, so that it’s nearly impossible to read, much less interpret. They donate money to the Speaker and others, and Congress works to get it rubber-stamped so it becomes law.
Democrat Congress members and a few wavering Republicans didn’t need to bother to read or understand the bill, dare less question it, they just needed to vote for it. The results were easily predicted, the special interest groups will get richer at the public’s expense, and the bill won’t do what they told the public it will do. Sure enough, once a form of the bill passed, taxpayers did not get to keep their original doctors as President Obama himself had promised, premiums doubled for many, choices were reduced for insurance plans, and deductibles were raised. The top three health care insurers, tapping into the $500,000,000 in government subsidies, soon had record profits to boast about to Wall Street. People began going into debt to pay for healthcare insurance yet another boon for the big banks.
Pelosi and Congress had shown us our how government really works as a highly corrupted and manipulative machine whose arrogance and selfishness far outweighed their will to serve the people.
