EMBEZZLING FUNDS FROM ‘LET GIRLS LEARN’: MARYAM NAWAZ OF PAKISTAN
According to ubi.com on October 22nd, 2015, in an article entitled “Michelle Obama discusses ‘Let Girls Learn Initiative in Pakistan,” first lady Michelle Obama met with the daughter of the Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Safdar, about a pledge of $70 million in July of 2016. Safdar did not hold an official public office position in Pakistan at that time and has been accused many times of corruption in terms of money and property.
An article from samaa.tv.news, "Let Girls Learn project: SHC hears corruption case against Maryam Nawaz," From April 1st, 2019, states that “Maryam Nawaz has been accused of embezzling funds of the ‘Let Girls Learn’ campaign in a petition filed in the Sindh High Court.”
“The federal government submitted its reply to the court in which it said that a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Pakistan and the US for $70 million. They agreed to work on different projects in the education sector.
The US government had allocated $51 million for different projects under USAID, while $19 million was released for the ‘Let Girls Learn’ Project. The project was launched by former US first lady Michelle Obama. In 2016, Obama and Maryam addressed a joint press conference and announced that the project will aim to benefit 200,000 girls in Pakistan.”
“The petition has been filed by civil rights activist Bisma Naureen. She said that a NAB inquiry should be initiated against Maryam over the allocation of funds. The petition also asks what authority Maryam visited Washington with and met Obama. Maryam did not hold any official post at the time, it points out.”
From an article in the Express Tribune dated September 27th, 2017, “SHC asks the federal government for details on $70m pledged for Let Girls Learn project," the author shared that
“The Sindh High Court (SHC) directed on Tuesday the attorney-general to submit details of the program, ‘Let Girls Learn’, under which former first lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, had pledged $70 million for the promotion of girls’ education in Pakistan.”
“A division bench, headed by Justice Munib Akhtar, was hearing a petition seeking directives for the national anti-graft watchdog to investigate alleged embezzlement of multi-million-dollar funds.”
“The petition had been filed by Bisma Noreen, who nominated former prime minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and the federal authorities concerned over the alleged embezzlement in the women’s education project.”
“The petitioner informed the judges that Michelle and Maryam had launched the ‘Let Girls Learn’ program at the White House in July 2016 for the promotion of girls’ education in Pakistan.”
“She said the program, worth $70 million, aimed to educate young girls, help build over a dozen new schools and renovate hundreds of others across the country.”
“The court was informed that the agreement, which was meant to benefit 200,000 girls in the country, seemed to have been held in abeyance or the amount has been embezzled as so far, no practical steps have been taken in this regard.”
“The petitioner further pleaded to the court to direct the federal authorities to explain in what capacity the former prime minister’s daughter had signed an agreement with the former US first lady.”
“Noreen also requested to direct the authorities concerned to submit details of the progress, if any, made so far on the program. The petitioner further sought a direction for the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to conduct an inquiry into the matter.”
“During the hearing, the federal law officer told the judges that he had written to the respondents, including the federal finance ministry, Maryam and NAB, but all had yet to respond. Therefore, he sought more time to submit their comments.”
“Granting the request, the bench allowed time till October 16 to the deputy attorney-general to furnish details regarding the funds that had been spent or lying unspent under the program.”
Opinion: the Obama Gang transferred 70 million to the control of a Pakistani citizen-- not even a government official-- under Michelle Obama’s “Let Girls Learn’ initiative but after three years there was no evidence that any of the funds had been used for that purpose. With this kind of planned corruption between the US government and Pakistan, one has to wonder about the fate of all the funds that were channeled to multiple countries. The Obama Gang which includes the Muslim Brotherhood, a known sponsor of Terror, gave hundreds of millions of dollars to predominantly Muslim countries many of which were also directly or indirectly sponsors of terror. United States government was essentially funding ISIS and Islamic terror in Africa, the Middle East, and Europe. What is especially sickening is that this was at least partially achieved under the guise and deception of helping girls to learn.
Maryam Nawaz, in July of 2018, was sentenced to seven years in prison with a £2 million fine on corruption charges in the Avenfield Real estate reference case. The Islamabad High Court suspended her sentence on September 19th, 2018.
Marryam Nawaz was arrested by National Accountability Bureau Lahore over Chaudhry Sugar Mills corruption charges on August 8, 2019.
In an article from World Bank.org, “A visit from Michelle Obama and a $2.5 billion pledge to ‘let girls learn,’” a pledge from World Bank for two-and-a-half billion dollars was proposed for African students in 2016.
